11 of the Best Engagement Ring Ideas for 2025

As refined, simple designs like solitaire diamond engagement rings take centre stage in 2024, we take a look at the best engagement ring trends with classic credentials that still allow for custom, personal touches.
Which ring trends will we see throughout 2025?
As revealed in our Engagement Ring and Wedding Band 2025 Trends report, the solitaire engagement ring was the top style choice in 2024 and will most likely continue to dominate in 2025. Cushion and emerald cut diamonds are also expected to continue their rise in popularity.
For metal, platinum was the lead choice in 2024, followed by yellow gold – a trend that will probably persist in 2025. We also expect mixed metal rings to rise, particularly yellow gold bands paired with platinum collets.
During a cost of living crisis, it's important to have options for engagement rings on a budget as buyers in all sectors are becoming more cautious with their purchases, opting for simple, refined designs that hit the perfect balance between 'modern heirloom' and 'timeless classic.' As a result, lab grown diamonds have risen in popularity, offering an attractive and more affordable option for buyers who want to increase the size of their stone without a significant price increase.
10 engagement ring ideas for 2025
From all the engagement ring trends we predicted for 2025, here are 10 ideas for your engagement ring:
#1. Simple solitaire ring designs
As simplicity reigns in 2025 and minimalism makes its comeback, engagement ring buyers will be searching for the best ways to create a ring that’s back-to-basics and timeless. The less fussy the design, the more budget you can dedicate to a knock-out diamond.
A simple design certainly doesn’t mean boring. Explore the different ways to design solitaire engagement rings: the metal work can be smooth, plain and simple, yet still evoke interest with subtle quirks, like a tapered band, split shank or ‘floating diamond’ setting style.
Take a look at some of our best-selling solitaire engagement rings: Bardot, Temple and Portman.
The Bardot has sleek lines and defined proportions, which can maximise the dispersion of light through the diamond. The Temple has an ultra-contemporary claw design with beautifully balanced curves, while the Portman has a super simple form and seamless joint between the claws and band.
#2. Twisted crossover engagement rings
Since the diamond band style engagement ring is the second most popular among couples, behind the solitaire, it's hard to not see the appeal of this sophisticated design. For extra edge, a twisted band engagement ring is bold enough to make your engagement ring stand-out, but it can be executed in a way that keeps the design cool, refined and timeless, albeit a little different. Check out our Blondell design, or create a bespoke, twisted ring of your own!
#3. Halo engagement rings with round or oval diamond
Halo rings make the list of top engagement ring ideas every year for a reason: it’s a classic design that's a little more dressed up than a solitaire ring, but still very refined and stylish. Although the popularity of halo engagement rings saw a decline in 2024, we predict to see an increase in 2025 with the rise of the Old Money wedding aesthetic.
For a more stripped-back look, choose to simply embellish your ring with pavé or scallop set halo and leave the band plain, like the Oberon. Alternatively, match the setting of the halo right along the band for a little more bling, like the Classic Faye.
#4. Hidden halo rings & embellishments
As engagement ring buyers are largely keeping their designs simple for 2025, there’s an increased demand for the special-little-somethings that can set a ring apart from the next: subtle details that only the wearer would see and notice, like hidden halos, diamond set bezels or small gemstones set into the inside of the ring’s band.
Choosing subtle ways to personalise an engagement ring whilst keeping the design refined will be huge throughout 2025. The best hidden halo engagement rings will remain refined and timeless, but carry that sweet, sentimental detailing the wearer will cherish forever. Combine the 2025’s engagement ring trend for simplicity by choosing a hidden halo solitaire ring, or opt for a more unusual shape – an emerald cut, pear or oval hidden halo engagement ring will be a huge hit.
#5. Vintage-inspired engagement rings
Bridal fashion 2025 is focusing on timeless elegance with contemporary flair. A lot of vintage inspiration is being incorporated into wedding themes, bridal dresses, makeup and hairstyles. So, a vintage-inspired engagement ring is the perfect addition. With a mixture of modern materials and a classic look, vintage-inspired rings are long-lasting and easily personalised to your individual tastes.
#6. Sustainable rings & lab diamonds
Lab grown diamond rings are still relatively new to the engagement ring market, yet contemporary jewellers like Queensmith are finding more and more conscious couples seeking to invest in a diamond with ethical and sustainable credentials. As money and personal budgets become extremely important to engagement ring buyers in 2025, the pull of lab diamonds will grow, as they retail between 50-60% lower than mined diamonds.
The demand for mined diamonds remains strong, particularly as global initiatives, like the Kimberley Process, have eradicated over 99.8% of the blood diamond trade. Therefore, a mined diamond purchased in the UK is almost certainly conflict-free.
At Queensmith, we also have our own collection of eco-friendly lab diamonds, Grown by Queensmith – a range of carbon neutral diamonds with Certified Sustainability Rated Diamond™ status, independently verified by the SCS.
#7. Special Toi et Moi engagement rings
Toi et Moi rings are seeing noticeable rise in popularity, with their meaningful two-stone design representing the bond of two individuals. To create a more distinctive look, you can mix and match your stones, and opt for a coloured gemstone like a green emerald or blue sapphire. Have you seen the iconic royal engagement ring of Jackie Kennedy? It's a 2.88 carat emerald cut diamond alongside a similarly sized green emerald in a classic toi et moi ring style – a truly spectacular design.
#8. Trilogy engagement ring with a gemstone or alternative shape
The best trends for three stone engagement rings in 2025 will use diamond shapes a little different to the traditional round choice. Think oval diamonds with pear diamond sides, emerald cuts with tapered baguettes, princess cut diamonds with half moon crescents.
Elongated diamonds work best as the side diamonds for this trend, such as pears set horizontally. Balance this out with an elongated diamond set vertically, like oval, emerald cut or radiant cut diamonds. There are so many choices to choose from to find the best combination for your trilogy engagement ring! If it's sparkle you're after, then a selection of three round diamonds, like our Leigh engagement ring, is the perfect choice.
#9. Geometric diamond rings
As the engagement ring industry continues to shake up and cater for contemporary tastes, we’ve also seen a rise in less feminine, distinctive diamond shapes: angular diamond shapes like Asscher cuts, emerald cuts, and even hexagonal diamonds are climbing in popularity. You can also gain the illusion of a geometric diamond by opting for a hexagonal halo for an ultra-cool, Modern Deco-style ring.
Unconventional brides, grooms and contemporary couples enjoy the step-cut nature of diamonds like Asscher and emerald cuts. Step diamonds are geometric in design, with large, parallel facets that result in a little less sparkle than brilliant cuts like rounds; but the mirror-like illusions the angular diamonds offer are unrivalled.
#10. Eternity rings & promise rings
Whether for a proposal ring, a promise ring or as a token of love or gratitude, eternity rings will be a hero ring style throughout 2025. For those looking to limit their engagement ring budget, an eternity ring is the perfect solution – suited to minimalist, and both non-traditional and understated tastes.
Choosing an eternity ring as an engagement ring for your partner could be risky unless they’ve stated this is the kind of alternative engagement ring they’re interested in. With 2025's minimalist trends in mind, a simple diamond band can be a beautiful, subtle way to mark your engagement – and something you can add to over the years, with each of life’s landmark celebrations.
#11. Split-shank engagement rings
A split shank ring sees the band of the ring split in two, either with one, both or neither parts of the split band set with melee diamonds. It’s an ultra-modern ring style and a beautiful idea for an engagement ring in 2025. A split shank ring is a little out of the ordinary, so it's the perfect choice for contemporary tastes that veer from tradition.
Set your split shank engagement ring with an elongated shape, set in ‘east to west’ style (horizontally) for an engagement ring trend that is set to rise in 2021. Alternatively, you can choose a split shank ring setting for an otherwise traditional design - think a round diamond, and four claws, platinum.
Why more people are choosing bespoke rings
Investing in made-to-last, high-quality crafting is something else engagement ring buyers are keen to do in 2025. For vintage-inspired, Art Deco-style or more unique ring designs, it's best to go for a bespoke engagement ring.
We’ve seen a rising interest in how our in-house workshop operates, the craftsmanship that goes into each ring and the benefits of choosing a custom ring over something mass-produced. Learn more about the ring crafting process.
