About Half Carat Diamond Rings
A 0.5ct diamond ring weighs 100mg, making it among the smaller options for a diamond engagement ring, yet it is a beautiful option for people with refined and minimalist taste. The size of a round half carat diamond ring is around 5.25mm: not too small, not too big - a perfectly dainty ring for people that like to keep things understated and simple.
The 0.5 carat diamond price will be considerably less than bigger carat weights, because diamond price increases exponentially with weight. If you’re working to a tight budget, consider a 0.5ct diamond ring - you could find even more savings with a lab diamond.

A good quality lab grown 0.50ct diamond typically costs £925, and a good quality 0.50ct natural diamond costs upward of £1,800. You will then pay for the ring setting itself, which starts at £700 for a good quality platinum or 18K gold solitaire ring.
Please note that diamond prices fluctuate, and this should be used as a guide price accurate at the time of writing.
A 0.5ct diamond ring is a good size: it isn’t huge, but it isn’t microscopic either. The smallest diamond you can choose for an engagement ring is 0.30ct, so this is a good 0.20ct bigger. Lots of couples love the dainty, minimalist look of a 0.50ct diamond ring. Some professionals find they can’t wear a big engagement ring to work, like doctors, nurses and vets, so a half carat diamond ring can be a great option for them.
0.5 carat is a measurement of a diamond’s weight, that equates to half of a full carat. One full carat weighs 200mg, so a 0.5 carat diamond weighs half that, at 100mg. A round shape 0.5 carat diamond typically measures a little over 5mm in diameter.
A 0.5 carat engagement ring is not too small! Only diamonds below 0.30ct are considered too small for classic engagement rings. A 0.5 carat diamond can be the perfect size for lots of couples and their budgets, offering great, fiery sparkle.
Half carat diamond rings used to be one of the most popular carat weights to opt for. This was when ring buyers only had natural diamonds to choose from - now that lab diamonds are available, typically for prices between 50% to 80% less, higher carat weights have become more popular. Couples that have the budget for a 0.5ct natural diamond could now find they can afford a lab diamond closer to a 1 carat diamond ring - that’s twice bigger!
A round half carat diamond measures around 5.25mm in length. This can vary very slightly, depending on how the diamond has been cut. Elongated 0.5ct diamond shapes will look a little longer - like 6.45mm for a 0.5ct oval.
