One of life’s most exciting experiences as a couple is planning your wedding, but it can also be one of the most overwhelming.

From finding the perfect venue to managing guest lists, the to-do list can quickly become endless, which is why many couples might start turning to Artificial Intelligence (AI) for help. AI-powered tools are quickly shaking up how couples plan, personalise and perfect every detail of their big day.

To find out just how much AI is influencing wedding planning, we surveyed engaged and newlywed couples across the UK. Our goal was to understand how they are using AI and which planning-related tasks AI is most beneficial for. The findings demonstrate how AI is quickly becoming a necessary tool for couples getting ready to say "I do" – from creating AI speeches and vows, to handling finances and schedules – AI weddings are quickly becoming a fashionable reality.

How much are newlyweds using AI in wedding planning?

With 39% of respondents stating they have used or want to use AI during their wedding preparation, our survey indicates that AI is rapidly emerging as a preferred tool for couples organising their special day.

Of those who are currently engaged, 42% said they are already utilising AI to help plan their wedding, and 71% said they would consider using it.

In comparison, 21% of newlyweds who have been married a few years reported using AI. This could be because AI has only become more popular and people have begun to trust it more in recent years.

One of the most surprising results from our survey was the number of couples who are now using AI in place of traditional wedding planners. Instead of employing a wedding planner, a significant 63% of brides and grooms said they planned, or are planning, their wedding themselves with the help of their own makeshift AI wedding planner.

The change is even more noticeable among those who are engaged and intend to tie the knot within the next couple of years. A whopping 73% of brides and grooms-to-be are intending to use AI to help them plan their wedding.

For many, AI is a good alternative for hiring a planner because it's flexible, quick and affordable, especially for couples who want more hands-on-control or when budgets are tight.

That said, not everyone is ditching the professionals, with 37% of respondents saying they would still use a wedding planner alongside AI. This suggests that couples still see value in combining the best of both worlds – the personalised touch and industry experience of a human planner with the efficiency and convenience of AI.

2 Honeymoon planning 42%
3 Budgeting 37%
4 Theme & decor inspiration 33%
5 Recipe & drink inspiration 27%

Writing vows & speeches

AI speeches and vows were the most common use of an AI wedding planner, according to our survey, with 55% of brides and grooms using it to help them express their feelings. One of the most daunting and emotionally taxing aspects of wedding preparation is writing vows. An AI wedding speech generator can be used to help couples find the right words, by offering inspiration, providing structure and even editing recommendations to make sure their message is genuine, unique and well-written.

Honeymoon planners

Using AI as a honeymoon planner was the second most popular use, with 42% of couples using it to organise their post-wedding escape. From recommending destinations based on your budget and travel preferences to creating custom itineraries and even comparing flight and accommodation options, an AI planner can save couples countless hours of research when it comes to their honeymoon.

AI & choosing wedding decor

Coming in fourth was using an AI wedding planner to choose wedding themes and décor inspiration, with 33% of respondents opting for their virtual assistant to help. It can be challenging to picture the style of a wedding, particularly with so many ideas available online. By creating mood boards, colour schemes, and even table settings that are specific to your vision, AI wedding planners can assist couples in reducing selections based on the venue, season or preferred style.

Budgeting with AI

37% of brides and grooms said they did, or would, use AI to help with wedding budgeting.

Since weddings can be among the most costly occasions in a couple’s life, it’s no surprise that many are looking to AI planners to assist them with money management. In fact, 37% of brides and grooms reported using AI wedding planners to help with wedding budgeting either now or in the future.

Among those who used AI for wedding budgeting, the most valuable features were estimating costs and suggesting ways to cut them, both selected by 79% of respondents.

Rank Aspect Count
1 Estimating costs 79%
1 Suggesting ways to cut costs 79%
2 Finding affordable alternatives 47%
3 Tracking spending 42%
4 Finding a venue within budget 26%

Nearly half (47%) also used AI to find less expensive options, such as suggesting budget-friendly venues, suppliers, or décor options that fit the couple’s style without breaking the bank. This kind of tailored guidance can be incredibly helpful for couples who want to stick to their budget without sacrificing on style or quality.

Additionally, according to 42% of respondents, AI planners assisted them in tracking their spending, which is a crucial function for maintaining control as plans evolve. AI planners can offer immediate monitoring and peace of mind for a variety of tasks, including handling deposits, final balances and unforeseen expenses.

Even though only 26% of respondents expressly used AI to discover a venue within their budget, this indicates that it has the potential to be a very useful tool for targeted searches, especially in places where venue expenses can quickly take up a significant amount of funds.

Where couples trust AI wedding planners to help cut costs

Our survey revealed that couples are also using AI wedding planners to help them make decisions about cutting wedding costs, particularly in areas where the budget might be stretched. The top area where couples are most likely to let AI intervene is entertainment, where 74% of brides and grooms would trust it to assist in saving costs. AI planners can provide brides and grooms-to-be with affordable entertainment options without requiring them to spend hours researching bands and DJs or making playlists.

Of those surveyed, 47% stated they would trust AI to help cut costs in this major category. With venue hire often being the single biggest wedding expense, AI’s ability to source venues within budget, advise off-peak dates or offer lesser-known places might be a huge advantage.

Wedding expense Percentage
Entertainment 74%
Venue 47%
Catering 42%
Flowers 42%
Invitations 42%
Photographer 26%
Dress / suit 26%

Catering, flowers and invitations were all mentioned by 42% of respondents as areas where AI planners can assist by suggesting affordable suppliers, figuring out headcounts, or even creating digital invitation designs.

Interestingly, only 26% of respondents stated they would use an AI wedding planner to help cut back on photography or outfits (dress/suit). With a lack of interest in AI wedding photos or dresses, this suggests that couples prefer a more personal touch over automated recommendations when it comes to capturing memories or dressing for the occasion.

Using AI to write wedding vows or speeches

Over half of brides and grooms would, or have, used AI to help write wedding vows or speeches.

One of the most emotional parts of any wedding is the vows, and it appears that AI is starting to be seen as a trusted source of help. More than half of the brides and grooms, 55%, admitted to using AI wedding speech generators to assist them with coming up with the perfect words for their wedding.

But, it’s not for everyone. With 45% of respondents saying they wouldn’t use AI generators for speeches or vows, there clearly remains a desire in some people to maintain complete control over such an intimate sentiment. These words have a lot of emotional meaning for many people, and writing them by hand without the aid of technology could feel more genuine or sincere.

However, the fact that the majority would welcome AI into this intimate area of the wedding highlights how the concept of "personal touch" is changing in the era of smart technology.

Most couples still wanted to keep their vows personal, but they valued a creative push to get started. Of those who used AI wedding speech generators, 53% said they simply used it for inspiration. Remarkably, 19% of respondents claimed to have edited their vows with the aid of AI.

34% of respondents said they only used AI speech generators to get ideas for thank-you speeches and toasts, but 31% went one step further and utilised AI to edit their speeches, helping to modify the material to fit their audience and voice. This combination of human input and AI support points to an increasing acceptance of utilising AI as a tool, not a replacement, for genuine heartfelt expression.

Only 19% of respondents wrote their thank-you speech or vows entirely using AI. While this is still a smaller portion, it still reflects a shift in attitudes with some couples now seeing AI as capable of producing well-written, meaningful messages that don’t necessarily need extensive rewriting. However, this does raise the question of whether we’re beginning to lose the art of writing heartfelt, personal speeches without relying on AI for help.

The main reasons for using AI to write speeches/vows

Reason Percentage
I didn't know where to start or what to say 72%
I wanted to make them sound better 41%
I wanted to make them more romantic and poetic 25%
I wanted to make them funnier 9%
I wanted them to sound less cringeworthy 6%

According to our survey, 72% of brides and grooms found themselves using AI speech generators because they were unsure where to start or what to say. Finding the first words can often be the hardest part when it comes to writing speeches. AI offers a helpful starting point, guiding users through structure, tone, and content, easing the pressure of the blank page.

Many couples are also using AI wedding speech generators to improve their speeches and vows. 41% said they used AI generators because they wanted their vows or speeches to sound better, whether that meant improving the flow, finding the right wording, or polishing their message. For 25% of respondents, the goal of using AI was to make their words more romantic or poetic, suggesting that AI is seen as a way of adding style and emotion to something deeply personal.

A smaller but still significant group of respondents used AI wedding speech generators for more specific writing tweaks. 9% said they wanted to make their vows or speeches funnier, while 6% admitted they wanted to make them sound “less cringe.”

Over two-thirds of couples turned to AI wedding speech generators because they didn’t know where to begin when it came to writing their vows/speeches.

How much AI is too much when it comes to vows?

While many couples are open to using AI wedding speech generators to help write their vows and speeches, most still want the majority of their words to come from the heart. Among those who said they’d use AI, 63% said they’d only feel comfortable with up to 25% of their vows being AI-generated.

Only 16% said they’d be comfortable with 50% of their vows coming from AI generators, and just 9% would go as far as 75%. It's interesting to note that none of the respondents indicated they would feel at ease with vows that were entirely composed by AI speech generators.

66% of Brides and Grooms said they would tell their partner if AI wedding speech generators helped them write their vows or speech.

Opinions vary somewhat when it comes to transparency about using AI. With a strong inclination toward honesty, 66% of respondents stated they would tell their partner if AI assisted them in writing their speech or vows.

Nonetheless, 28% acknowledged that they would only speak up if asked. Meanwhile, 6% of respondents stated they would never inform their partner, perhaps out of concern that it would detract from the sentiment.

Over three-quarters of respondents have heard a bad wedding speech.

When it comes to memorable wedding moments, speeches can go either way, and according to our survey, 76% of people have heard a wedding speech that missed the mark.

When asked why a wedding speech was memorable for the wrong reasons, whether it be a speech from the father of the bride or the best man, many people pointed to the same common pitfalls.

One of the biggest complaints about speeches was that they went on far too long, causing guests to become restless as speakers repeated themselves or drifted off topic. The crowd frequently cringed rather than applauded due to poor pacing and a lack of preparation.

Uncomfortable or inappropriate content throughout the speeches was another significant complaint from guests. From private stories better left untold to jokes that didn’t land, some speeches crossed the line between sincere and awkward. Things like mentioning an ex-partner, drunken stories, or inside jokes that no one else knows should be avoided at all costs.

Others claimed that speeches that were impersonal or generic, as if they were read from a template with no genuine connection to the couple, were the worst. These remarks frequently lacked the warmth and sincerity that guests anticipate during such a significant portion of the day, whether they were too robotic or too informal.

Tips to avoid a bad wedding speech

Based on everything respondents shared about what doesn’t work in a wedding speech, we’ve pulled together seven top tips to help you ensure your wedding speech lands just right without the help of an AI speech writer.

1. Keep it short & sweet
Aim for around 5 minutes or less. A concise, well-paced speech holds attention and leaves people wanting more, not checking their watches.

2. Know your audience
Remember you’re speaking to a mixed crowd made up of family, friends, and sometimes colleagues. Steer clear of jokes that are too personal or anecdotes that might make the couple (or you) look foolish.

3. Practice makes perfect
Make sure you rehearse your speech out loud multiple times. Practising can help with pacing, confidence, and ironing out any awkward sentences.

4. Speak from the heart
You don’t need to be a comedian or a poet. A heartfelt message with genuine warmth and personal touches always resonates more than trying too hard to be funny or clever.

5. Avoid alcohol before speaking
It might be tempting to calm the nerves with a drink, but too much alcohol can derail even the best-prepared speech. Save the celebratory drinks for after you’ve spoken.

6. Structure it clearly
Have a beginning, middle, and end. Start by introducing yourself, share one or two memorable (appropriate!) stories, and end with well wishes or a toast.

7. Consider a second opinion
If you're unsure, ask someone you trust to listen to your speech in advance. A fresh set of ears can help spot anything confusing, too long, or unintentionally awkward.

How are couples using AI to help with seating arrangements?

Planning a wedding seating chart can be surprisingly complex, and our survey found that many couples are now relying on AI wedding planners to make the process easier. Here are some of the key ways they’re using smart tech to tackle the task:

Building the right guest list for your budget & venue

AI wedding planners can help couples make the all-important decision of who gets an invite in the first place. There are a number of AI tools that can help couples generate an ideal guest list number by taking into account their budget and the venue’s capacity.

Seating guests based on relationships

A long and time-consuming challenge when creating a wedding seating plan is deciding who sits where, especially when family politics and friendship dynamics come into play. Couples have started turning to AI planners in order to help analyse their guests, such as relationships and potential conflicts. By factoring in who gets along (and who doesn’t), AI can suggest seating arrangements to help avoid unnecessary tension and create a more enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.

Seating guests based on dietary needs

Couples are also using AI wedding planners to streamline the dining experience by grouping guests based on their dietary requirements. Whether guests are vegan, gluten-free or have specific allergies, AI tools can help ensure they’re seated in a way that makes meal service smoother and more efficient for caterers, something that could end up being quite a time-consuming task otherwise.

Maximising venue space for comfort & flow

From spacing out tables to improving the flow between dining areas, dance floors and other key areas of the venue, couples are also turning to AI wedding planners to help them make the most of their venue’s layout to maximise space and enhance comfort.

Can AI wedding planners solve wedding guest drama?

When it comes to navigating family tensions and seating dilemmas, AI is starting to play a surprising role in modern wedding planning. According to our survey, 47% of couples believe AI planners did, or could, help resolve tricky guest conflicts, whether that meant keeping feuding relatives apart or seating guests in a way that avoided social awkwardness. For those who used it, AI planners helped couples in an easy, stress-free way to make diplomatic decisions, taking some of the emotional weight off the couple’s shoulders.

But not everyone's convinced.

Despite its growing popularity, just over half of couples (53%) weren’t convinced AI wedding planners could help manage wedding drama. Some people believe that technology cannot adequately comprehend the subtleties of guest interactions because they are too intimate.

Long-standing family conflicts or unsaid social dynamics may not always be taken into consideration by AI, even while it can recommend intelligent seating based on data such as dietary requirements or who knows one another. A more involved, one-on-one strategy still seemed like the best option for those couples.

Why some couples are still holding back from AI wedding planning

Even though AI is quickly becoming a popular tool for many couples, not everyone is ready to embrace it yet. Among those who said they didn’t, or wouldn’t, use AI to help plan their wedding, the most common concern was that it lacked a personal touch, with 28% stating this as their main reason.

Some couples believed that technology just couldn't replace the human element of organising such a significant day because weddings are such intimate and emotional occasions.

Interestingly, the second most common reason wasn’t about distrust or data, it was a lack of understanding. 27% said they didn’t know how best to use AI, highlighting a significant knowledge gap. This suggests that while the interest in using AI wedding planners may be increasing, adoption rates could be increased with more education.

Concerns about disclosing too much personal information (8%), a lack of trust in the technology (10%), and the perception that AI-generated recommendations are too general (25%) were among the other issues. Some people still prefer the human touch when it comes to planning their special day, as seen by the 6% who claimed they didn't require AI because they had previously employed a wedding planner.

Are AI wedding planners here to stay?

65% of people don’t believe AI wedding planners will make weddings feel any less unique.

With AI becoming a bigger part of everyday life, it's no surprise that couples are starting to use it to streamline their wedding planning. But does AI risk taking the personal touch out of the big day?

According to our survey, 65% of people don’t believe AI wedding planners will make weddings feel any less unique. Still, 48% admit they do have some concerns, showing there’s still a careful balance to strike between convenience and character.

89% of respondents believe AI will play a bigger role in wedding planning in the future.

Despite those concerns, it seems that respondents believe AI is here for the long term. A whopping 89% of respondents believe AI will play a bigger role in wedding planning in the future.

When asked which tasks AI is most likely to fully take over in the next five years, speech writing came out on top, with 59% of couples predicting AI will soon be crafting best man toasts and heartfelt parent tributes.

Budgeting followed closely at 56%, as couples now turn to smart tech to track spending and stay on top of costs.

Honeymoon planning (54%) also ranked highly, with AI tools helping find the best deals and destinations based on personal preferences.

Interestingly, more complex or relationship-based tasks like supplier negotiations (28%) and venue booking (25%) were seen as less likely to be handed over to AI, possibly because these decisions still require a human touch or a bit of gut instinct.

Whatever the preference of the individual, it seems as though AI wedding planners are becoming an increasingly popular concept to reduce the stress of wedding planning and give young couples some inspiration for their special day and the honeymoon that follows. Time will only tell how involved AI will become with one of our most personal traditions in future.
