Paired together as lab partners at the age of 14, Sarah and Liam were completely unaware of their future to come.

By 20, they travelled to opposite ends of the world to study and live their dreams, with the promise they’d wait for each other. ‘If we’re meant to be, he’ll be there when I get back’ became Sarah’s mantra for the 7 years they spent living long distance.

The Proposal

Fast forward 14 years from when they first got together, and Liam decided to brave the London Marathon in the name of raising money for charity, on April 23rd 2017. With over 30 friends and family in toe to cheer him on, Sarah was anxiously waiting at the finish line. As Sarah says, 'it was his moment to shine'. But that moment quickly became one they'd cherish together. After Liam completed the gruelling 26.2 mile race, the group gathered for a celebratory photo. With Sarah and Liam taking centre stage amongst their loved ones, Liam swiftly got down on one knee. ‘I froze. He opened a box and presented me with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen.’

Liam had organised a film crew to record the whole thing, whilst posing inconspicuously as if they were simply there to film the aftermath of the race for the news. Whilst friends, family and passers-by cheered and whooped, Sarah repeatedly asked Liam if he was serious, eventually coming to terms with the shock proposal and, of course, saying yes! The next morning, Liam told Sarah to Google their names, and sure enough the proposal video had become an overnight sensation, with newspaper coverage up and down the nation celebrating the extra special moment.

The couple are set to marry in June 2019 at the dreamy Chateau Lagorce, near Bordeaux. Best wishes to both Liam and Sarah - we can't wait to see the wedding snaps!

The Ring

Together with our trained gemmologist and design consultant SJ, Liam found the perfect ring design and centre diamond for his loved one, Sarah. The design borrows from the best parts of a cushion cut and round brilliant diamond. Using a round brilliant centre stone ensures maximum sparkle: due to the precise angle of each facet and the perfect symmetry of a round, this diamond shape sparkles more than any other. The bespoke engagement ring makes use of a cushion-like squared halo of diamonds around the centre stone, giving the impression of a cushion cut. The perfect pairing of timeless sparkle and contemporary style.

Liam opted for our much loved Classic Kelly design - cushion shape halo with a round diamond. Similar styles to explore if this elegant ring piques your interest are the Oberon and Classic Oberon. Opt for a cushion diamond centre stone, or go classic with a round brilliant - for optimum sparkle and lustre!
