Discreetly Fashionable Design Shop

Skandium, as you might expect from the name, specialises in all things Scandi-interiors related. Its success could be down to the credibility of its roots: founded in 1999 by a Swede, a Finn and a Dane, the mission of the brand is to bring great quality modernist design from the region they hold dear to them, and reinvent interiors throughout London and beyond. In 2007, The Independent labelled the brand ‘London’s most discreetly fashionable design shop’, and since then it has been onward and upward for the design house, with a concession in Selfridges and stores in South Kensington, Soho and Marylebone.

Scandi Style

The style of Skandium is undoubtedly Scandinavian - simple, sleek and extremely well made. Carrying both traditional and more contemporary designs, Skandium is a paradise for minimalists and design enthusiasts. Queen of Shops herself, Mary Portas, reviewed the ‘achingly cool’ shop to have an ‘unrivalled sense of home’, after listening to her trendiest friends raving about their new homeware. Unlike its (slightly less chic) Scandi rival IKEA, Skandium does not display products in room sets, but instead allows visitors to wander through uncategorised displays to find what’s right for them.

Statement Pieces and Treasurable Gifts

Skandium will be loved by those that frequent The Conran Shop or Good Hood’s life store - similar ideas of beauty in simplicity flow through every design they produce, line they carry and interior they curate. We’re particularly obsessed with the Astep Pendant Lamp and various copper home accessories. If you like a bold interior look, we love the dark blue and dark green walls that feature on their Instagram feed - the perfect base to contrast bright copper, rose gold and yellow gold features. Even if you’re not in the market for new furniture or an interior redesign for the new year, keep up to date with their latest looks on Instagram and pen down the name ‘Skandium’ for when you fancy an interior refresh. Also a great destination for gifts, Skandium has a range of lower priced trinkets - the coolest candle holders, Skandinavisk scents and simple ceramics. Check out this still life copper skull for a statement piece to brighten any room.
