On Valentine’s Day 2018, we received a series of photos of the most stunning pear shape engagement ring, a balmy pink sunset, and a very happy couple.
To our delight, our very own design consultant and gemmologist SJ had got engaged whilst on a trip to Australia! Read how Luiz secretly created in SJ’s very own workplace (to her naturally, very high standards), without her suspecting a thing.
The Proposal
In February 2018 SJ took her partner Luiz to see the Australian sights, visit friends and have a couple of weeks enjoying the sunshine. Having lived there for 10 years, Australia holds a special place in SJ’s heart, which she wanted to share with Luiz. The trip was a whirlwind of meeting up with friends and family, but Luiz found the perfect time to propose during the four days they spent alone together at Halcyon House, a picturesque and serene boutique hotel in Cabarita Beach, New South Wales. Every bit the ‘halcyon’ getaway.
Luiz arranged a champagne picnic on the secluded, idyllic beach by the hotel. According to SJ, she was happily playing around in the sand when Luiz told her to turn around. He was down on one knee holding her dream ring. In her own words, she began to ‘ugly cry’ (wouldn’t we all?), so Luiz skipped his speech to the big question - ‘will you marry me?’. Of course, after a few ‘are you sure?’ SJ said yes. They danced around the beach and drank champagne as the sun set - the dreamiest of evenings.
The pair are now in the full swing of wedding planning, and recently visited Soho House’s Somerset-based Babington House, where they plan to wed in Easter. From everyone at Queensmith, congratulations SJ and Luiz!
The Engagement Ring
Of course, being a certified gemmologist and engagement ring design expert, SJ knew the ring she had always wanted - and Luiz’s bespoke take on the Pear Oberon rose gold engagement ring, complete with a subtle diamond set bridge, exceeded her expectations. As SJ has said many-a-time, she wouldn’t have wanted her engagement ring from anywhere else than Queensmith, so Luiz stealthily arranged a top-secret appointment with our gemmologists and design consultants Brett and Emily.
Together, they found the perfect pear centre stone, beautifully decorated with a delicate halo of perfectly calibrated diamonds. Perhaps the most striking thing about SJ's pear diamond is just how white and bright it is - it could be seen a mile off!

SJ had always said she wanted something a bit different, so Luiz opted for an 18K rose gold band, with the intricate detailing of a diamond bridge. ‘I love the elegance of a pear’, says SJ, ‘and with the rose gold band it almost looks as if the diamond floats on my hand’. We have to say Luiz, you did an amazing job!
